Abstract

Early Stone-Campbell leaders had much to say about the concept of holiness. In fact, they considered holiness to be at the core of Christianity and essential to the Great Commission—decisive for Christian purpose, identity, and happiness; foundational for Christian unity and evangelism. In discussing the process for developing holiness, this article corrects an oftenrepeated misunderstanding about Alexander Campbell’s own view of the working of the Holy Spirit in conversion and sanctification.
