Pontius Pilate and the Trial of Jesus: The Crowd

Abstract

This study proposes that because Judaea had a significant political, military, and strategic importance for the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate could not allow the crowd to riot at the trial of Jesus. The execution of Jesus thus preserved the peace and stability that was vital to the Roman Near East.
