Promising scholars are undergraduate and graduate students chosen annually as individuals with high potential for success in future academic pursuits. For graduate students, this would be Ph.D. studies and for undergraduates this would be M.A. or M.Div. studies.
Editors and other friends of SCJ at educational institutions associated with the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement are asked to nominate students as Promising Scholars each spring. Those associated with undergraduate institutions are allowed one nominee and those associated with graduate institutions are allowed two nominees. The nominators are allowed to use these awards as departmental or institutional awards, or they may choose nominees personally.
Many schools choose to use this award as part of their graduation awards ceremony. An award packet sent to the nominating professor includes an SCJ certificate and the current issue of SCJ. With the return of a postcard included for new address information, Promising Scholars are shipped their second complimentary issue, and are encouraged to become student subscribers to SCJ.
Promising scholars are also given free registration at the SCJ Conference the following year and are encouraged to participate.
Promising scholars are listed on the SCJ site.
