2024 SCJ Reception Builds Community

On Friday evening, November 22, 2024, at the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting, over sixty people from across the country to participate as one community in “A Conversation About First Corinthians.” Most were scholars in Churches of Christ and Christian Churches, but others came from International Churches of Christ and Disciples of Christ. One thing in common was interest in 1 Corinthians. Another was just being together in the same room. Multiple conversations continued for another hour after the scheduled ninety minutes.

All were rewarded with thoughtful comments from our two panelists, Alisha Paddock of Manhattan Christian College and Richard Wright of Abilene Christian University. Moderator Heather Gorman of Johnson University moderated a conversation that allowed both Alisha and Richard to relay the highlights of their 1 Corinthians research that then transferred into their conversation together and then ultimately into a conversation engaging the audience.
